Abstract


The author observed the effect of the zinc-deficient diet (Alvares and Meuer¢¥s prescription) on the oral mucosal epithelium of the Weanling rats. The zinc deficient diets were supplied to the rats for 4 weeks.
The histochemical techniques employed were alkaline phosphatase reaction, PAS reaction, Feulgen reaction, toluidine blue stain for RNA and Pearse¢¥s method for -SH and -SS groups.
The results were as follows:
DNA were predominantly stained in the basal cell layer. RNA were diffuseU stained in the . all layers of epithelium. Basal cell and prickle cell layer shoves intense metachromasia. Those figures were distinct in the buccal mucosa ani gingiva. PAS positive substances were increased in the each ,layer. Diffuse acid phosphatase reaction was shown in the all layers of epithelium. The reaction for
-SH radicals was similar with in the control group. but the reaction for -SS radical was more intense than in the control group.
